Triple Beam Balance

Balance Beam Situation
Sometimes a weight "appears" to be on zero but it is not seated correctly. In this situation the weight is really a little to the left of the zero position. Jiggle each of the weights and make sure they each are seated in the notch which corresponds to zero. Once this is done, the balance should be "balanced" with the pointer at the far right of the instrument pointing to zero. If this is not the case, you must adjust the thumbscrew underneath the pan either clockwise or counter-clockwise until the pointer rests at zero. Once adjusted, the balance should maintain the thumbscrew setting as long as no one accidentally readjusts it. Practically this means that one should very rarely need to adjust the thumbscrew. But don't take it for granted -- always make sure that the balance reads zero before proceeding to weigh a sample. One weighs an object on the pan by counterbalancing it with the weights on the beams. When the weights match exactly - indicated by the pointer pointing to zero - the weight of the object is then read off of the beams.

Practice weighing a variety of small objects - like your keys or coins or pencils - to become familiar with the balance and how it works. Tare (or taring) the weighing container. This means weighing the empty container so that its weight can be deducted from the weight of the sample you want to weigh. Some balances, but not these triple beam ones, allow you to "zero" the balance with the empty weighing container on them. In order to tare the weighing container do the following: - 1. Weigh the empty container 2. Add to the container's weight the weight of the substance you wish to measure. You should perform this calculation in your notebook. Set the weights on the balance to this calculated total expected weight. D. Perform activities 1 and 2 as described below. There are 4 balances so work in 4 groups. Activity 2: Weigh 43 g of sand into a beaker. Record the weight and size of the empty beaker and report it below and on the blackboard for class comparison.

This is part of the entire wreck. Either way, to each their own as far as poetic interpretation goes. Actually, I'm not personally a feminist. I am a stay at home mom and have very traditional views when it comes to male and female roles. Adrienne Rich, however, was one of the biggest feminists of her time. It's important to keep that in mind when reading her works. Also, she wrote this poem during the time when many women were leaving the domestic world behind in order to climb the corporate ladder and develop careers. They encountered the glass ceiling time and time again and that is what prompted her to write Diving into the Wreck. Maybe your analysis is a little biased and has a "tunnel vision" perspective. I think there's more to it than just her struggle, but maybe a global struggle of life as a person. I disagree with your analysis. I think it is context heavy, relying too much on assumptions of meaning because Adrienne Rich is a "feminist" poet or a "bisexual" poet in a "patriarchy". Rich is those things, but she is also a straight up good poet, exploring human themes. I think the only context you might need to "get" this poem is the fact that she left her marriage shortly before writing this. I'm glad you picked this poem for the Squidoo community. I think it's appropriate in several ways. I agree, a stellar job here! Very powerful verse. You have done an excellent job in analysis.

To this I stuck a couple of small pieces of 3.6mm plywood and reinforced the back with a bit of spare hardboard. And to finish it off I just painted the front surface white. This created a second bounce board that is lightweight and is easy for someone to hold during filming; the overall size being just over 30 inches square (75 cm square). In filming the bounce boards are portable and handheld so that people can be directed in holding the bounce boards on the fly as appropriate. If you're doing your own photography not only wouldn't you have anyone to hold bounce boards for you but also the setting or subject being photographed is likely to be more static. So for your own still photography as well as making bounce boards you'll also want to construct a simple stand or feet to prop or stand your bounce board on.
